(1)Acts as the tutorial for Deltarune. The whole chapter introduces us to the characters and the way the world works. It does everything exceptionally well and hooks a player with ease. The characters are lovable and the mysteries arise. Overall the gameplay of the chapter is nothing compared to future chapters but it’s still a lot of fun. This is one of the chapters that doesn’t particularly hold up on a re-play (along with another) just due to the way it acts as a tutorial. The music in this chapter is beautiful but it gets better with chapters. Susie is immediately established as an important character and it shows by her entrance. The game also immediately and smoothly is able to tell the play “THIS IS NOT UNDERTALE 2!!”. It feels like a good amount of chapter 1 stuff got retconned story wise and gameplay wise but I feel like it was for the better. Susie’s character arc in this chapter is so relatable and sweet to me. Ralsei is such a fun character and also a tragic one and that is established with ease. Ralsei taking his hood off is such a good theory crafter for the fanbase. Lancer was such a good antagonist character for the chapter since we immediately feel safe and at home in the dark worlds. The king on the contrary keeps the stakes and suspense up. The lore of this game is so much more expansive than Undertale and that is established very early. Kris doesn’t have too much character development but they definitely have an interesting character twist at the end. This game is very special to me and this is a perfect start.
